3DMark has updated the Steel Nomad test program for free!
Time Spy has been running for eight years since its launch in 2016, and in those eight years there have been so many hardware technology and game updates that Time Spy has gradually become insufficient, so UL Solutions is officially updating the Steel Nomad and Steel Nomad Light tests on 3DMark for free today (2024/5/22) to replace Time Spy as the new DirectX 12 non-optical tracking test. Nomad Light" tests on 3DMark, replacing "Time Spy" as the new DirectX 12 non-light tracking test.

New Non-Light Pursuit Tests Steel Nomad and Steel Nomad Light Program Tests
Steel Nomad. The tests will be conducted at 3840 x 2160, or 4K, and are for the DirectX 12 benchmark running Windows 10 and 11. The program supports Multi sub-pass rendering, which allows you to set which API you want to use when using GPU APIs such as Vulkan, Metal, and DirectX 12 on your graphics card. The Nomad can be configured to test with any of these APIs when the graphics card is using GPU APIs such as Vulkan, Metal, and DirectX 12. It also supports Geometry Rendering, Surface Illumination, Particles, Asynchronous compute, Volumetric clouds, Screen clouds, Screen-space shadows, Screen-space reflections, Volume illumination and more.
Since Steel Nomad does not have a CPU test, the CPU's main role in the test is to write a list of instructions for the GPU to execute. A large number of tasks are allowed to be performed throughout the course of the test project. For example, rendering is done through multiple CPU threads, one for each available CPU core. This will shorten the CPU rendering time and reduce the chance of the CPU becoming bottlenecked.
而Steel Nomad LightWith a lower load pressure and tested at 2560 x 1440, or 2K resolution, Steel Nomad is about seven times the load of Fire Strike and about three times the load of Time Spy, by the way.
The RTX 4070 Ti scored 5104 points in the ∆ 3840 x 2160_4K resolution Steel Nomad test.
The GTX 1080 Ti scored 2120 points in the ∆ 3840 x 2160_4K resolution Steel Nomad test.
The RTX 4070 Ti scored 23623 points in the ∆ 2560 x 1440_2K resolution Steel Nomad Light test.
The GTX 1080 Ti scored 9115 points in the ∆ 2560 x 1440_2K resolution Steel Nomad Light test.
Leave a comment with your results! However, I still think that we should update the test program to replace "Fire Strike", due to the design of "Fire Strike", when facing the current super multi-core CPUs, there will be a drop in graphics card score (such as 13th/14th i9 or i7), I look forward to a new program to replace it.
