The Dream Card of the Year NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Founders Edition 11G Founders Edition Graphics Card Organizer Unboxing

After six years of battle, the 2017 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti has only a residual value of its original MSRP of 16%, and the GTX 1080 Ti Founders Edition 11G, which is clad in what is commonly referred to as the classic GTX 10 series Titan Leather cooling module, has fallen from being an unattainable dream card to becoming one of my favorite cards. Today, I'm going to open the box a little bit and clean the legendary graphics card from six years ago.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Founders Edition 11G Founders Edition Graphics Card Unboxing

Halfway to work this week, I saw someone selling used GTX 1080 Ti FE Founder's Edition graphics cards, the price opened up four children with a complete boxed and cosmetic damage I personally can still accept, suddenly back in 2017 when the author just started to contact the PC DIY circle, at that time to see the Internet people unboxing the GTX 10 series Founder's Edition graphics cards, because at that time only poor students could only in front of the screen to cast an envious eye, the excitement of this love can only be placed in the heart of the self-control. Since I was just a poor college student at that time, I could only cast my envious eyes in front of the screen, and the excitement of this love could only be controlled by myself in my heart. .... The head suddenly a dizziness under the order to wait for the package to come.

NVIDIA officially announced the GeForce GTX 10 series highest-end model “NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti” on 2017/2/2/28, and in the 3/9 performance release 3/10 officially open for sale, at that time the MSRP proposed price of 699 U.S. dollars, and after the high seas into the Taiwan additional Ghost Island tax set the price of 24900~24990, and the author this time to acquire a used card is from the GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1080 from the factory in 2017/5. The MSRP was $699, and after the high seas and the addition of Ghost Island tax in Taiwan, the price was set at $24,900~24,990, and the second-hand card that the author acquired this time was from GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Founders Edition (GV-N108TD5X-B), which was shipped out of the factory in May 2017 at the reference price of $24,990 yuan.

The GTX 1080 Ti is NVIDIA's flagship consumer graphics card on the Pascal architecture, featuring 3584 CUDA cores and 11GB of GDDR5X graphics memory, 7-phase Dual-FET power supply and thermal balancing with turbo radial fans, with a default clock rate of 1480 MHz and 1582 MHz in Boots, offering a 35% increase in performance over the lower-end GTX 1080. This is a 35% increase in performance over the GTX 1080, which is one step down.

∆ The GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Founders Edition, sold by GIGABYTE, was a flagship and now can only be purchased in the 70th level.

The GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Founders Edition is NVIDIA's founders edition graphics card. The card features a single turbofan with a heat shield to cool the GPU cores, and a unique look with a three-dimensional diamond-cut fan cover and transparent viewing window, a style that hasn't been seen since the RTX 20 series.

The length, width and height of the ∆ graphics card is 266.7 x 111.15 x 40 mm.

The Founders Edition graphics card cooling modules are compressed as much as possible, making them smaller than the models released by AIC's partners. The GTX 1080 Ti Founders Edition takes up only 2 slots of mounting space on the board, and the low thickness combined with the turbofan makes it a great fit for ITX chassis airflow planning.

The GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Founders Edition, powered by a PCIe 8+6 Pin slot, consumes around 350~380 W in stress tests.

The back of the card also has a metal-reinforced backplate, but it's rather plain and low-profile, and there were stickers on the back, but they're already brittle from the heat, so I just removed them.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Founders Edition 11G Disassembled by MicroClean

This card is already six years old, and the turbine fan cooling module needs to be constructed with more attention to dust accumulation, so I'll disassemble it myself, but since I don't have enough tools at hand, I can only remove the heat spreader and the upper fan shroud, replace the heat spreader alone, and remove a little bit of dust from the side of the fan.

The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti uses the Pascal architecture GP102-350-K1-A1 core. The GP102 core is a 16 nm process, with a core size of 471 mm2, 28 SM cells, and 3584 CUDA cores.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Founders Edition 11G Graphics Performance Scores

I'm going to run a few tests on a modern PC platform to give gamers an idea of what to expect, but I don't think anyone's going to buy a 1080 anymore, so we'll just have to see.

3DMark Fire Strike uses the DirectX11 GPU API and consists of two tests, a physical test and a combined CPU and GPU test, to test gaming performance at 1080p, Extreme 1440p and Ultra 2160p respectively, with a total score / graphics card score of 27191 / 28108 for 1080p resolution, 13481 / 13625 for 2K 1440p Fire Strike Extreme, and 13481 / 13625 for the more demanding 4K 2160p Fire Strike. /The Fire Strike Extreme scored 13481/13625 in 1080p, Extreme 1440p and Ultra 2160p resolution, while the Fire Strike Ultra scored 6907/6680 in 1080p resolution, and 13481/13625 in 2K 1440p, and 6907/6680 in 4K 2160p.

3DMark Time Spy for DirectX 12 GPU API is also a benchmark test for gaming orientation. In addition to 2K 1440p resolution, there is also a 4k 2160p Time Spy Extreme program for gaming performance testing, in which the Time Spy program scored 10261/9463 for the total score/graphics card; Time Spy Extreme program scored 4700/4338 for the total score/graphics card; and Time Spy Extreme program scored 4700/4338 for the total score/graphics card. The Time Spy Extreme program scored 10261/9463; the Time Spy Extreme program scored 4700/4338.

Gaming tests were conducted using Cyberpunk 2077, with the resolution set to FHD 1080p and the graphics quality effect "Extreme", with AMD FSR 2.1_quality turned on as an extra feature, but without optical tracking, which hadn't been popularized at the time of the 1080 Ti's launch.

∆ Cyberpunk 2077 1080p averages 72.19 fps.

I also used the Furmark test to compare the temperature difference between before and after the thermal paste replacement. Before the replacement, the thermal paste was already depleted with a maximum temperature of 88 °C; after the replacement, the maximum temperature was 84 °C, which is a 4 °C decrease in temperature.

∆ Maximum temperature of 88 °C before thermal paste replacement.

The ∆ is reduced by 4 °C and the maximum temperature of 84 °C is still quite hot.

Summary & Insights

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Founders Edition 11G Founders Edition graphics card can still cope with the current 1080p gaming needs, but want to open the real-time optical tracking is impossible, it can cope with the "now" AAA type game 1080p 60 fps, but the future of the new game masterpieces launched GTX 1080 Ti should also be quite breathtaking. It is also quite a gasp, this special purchase is entirely for collection purposes to satisfy the nostalgia of the year, so I do not particularly run other tests too lazy.
