Blacktop trucks is a CNC longboard carrier brand from Korea, developed, designed and manufactured by Korean Downhill Rider genie (Yu Jin hee), the brand can be traced back to 2014 when it was founded, and in the same year it launched its first generation of products for Free style & Dance, “VS-1”, as well as other Downhill and Free ride related downhill products. The author checked the previous price, at that time, the MSRP of Blacktop trucks VS-1 PRO in Taiwan was NT$9,600, and the price of Paris V2, the most commonly used casting bracket in the United States, was around NT$2,000 (depending on the color), which means that it cost nearly five times more than the price of common brackets, and it is indeed a high-priced single product. It is indeed a high-priced item.

At the same time, other competitor bracket models with "higher price" were STATION HAMLET (12,000), PARIS SAVANT (5,000), SEISMIC G5 (5~6,000), etc., and the prices in parentheses are the author's fuzzy impression of the prices at that time.

Blacktop has also launched two new PRO Model models, SD-110B and OP-110, with DoYoung Gwon and Wany Shin, two Korean Riders.

The DoYoung Gwon PRO Model_SD-110B, which debuted around 2016, focuses on the Dacne area, and the overall footwork is more flexible and lighter than the VS-1 PRO.

Blacktop trucks VS-1 PRO Longboard Stand Introduction

VS-1 PRO is a product of ten years ago, I borrowed an idle stand from a friend to produce this article, special thanks to Mizuto Rikabo for his help, the restoration process in addition to the basic dust cleaning, and then additional use of polishing agents to remove the surface oxidation.

The Blacktop trucks VS-1 PRO is the RKP (Rever King Pin) type of flatland longboard stand, the Hanger width stand is 176 mm, which is relatively rare for Free style & Dance longboard stands, most of them are around 180 mm.

The top half of the Hanger is made of 7075 aluminum alloy and CNC machined to create various lightweight shapes on the Hanger body, resulting in a net weight of only 395g for a single VS-1 PRO, and the surface is anodized to provide a variety of color options to match the board's body.

The Axis axle, which is responsible for contacting the Perrin and acting as the wheel's rolling center, is made of STS630 precipitation-hardened stainless steel / 17-4PH alloy, with a 0% Rake graft. What's rare is that at that time, Blacktop sold Axis axle replacements on their official website, so that if the Axis was bent or broken, it could be replaced, but I haven't personally seen anyone replace it, so I'm not too sure if the Axis was welded or fixed in some other way. However, since I haven't seen anyone replacing the Axis, I'm not sure if the Axis is welded or fixed in some other way.

The stand is 176 mm wide and features the iconic Blacktop trucks eagle eye at the bottom of the center and a skateboard pattern at the top.

JO PRO on the lower right corner of the bracket stands for Jongbin Jo_PRO Model, and the number underneath is the S/N number, which is estimated to be the 22nd set produced on 2015/10/12.

One of the main features of the Blacktop trucks brand is that the bracket is CNC machined, and if the Bushing Seat is made with CNC precision machining, the Bushing in the process of pressing and squeezing, the same set of Bushing foot feedback will be denser and more perfect than the casting of the bracket, but there is a corresponding disadvantage, because of too much precision Bushing will have a shorter life than the casting of the bracket, especially in the Barrel cylindrical rebound support feedback will be very obvious, if you pay much attention to the Bushing foot feeling. The VS-1 PRO is a bit difficult to identify the front and back because of the mirror reflection design on both sides. The author used to install the VS-1 PRO by using the depth of the Bushing Seat to determine the front and back, with the deeper side facing the ground and the shallower side facing the base.

The angle of the VS-1 PRO bracket is 50°, which is the same angle as common brackets, but the special thing is that the Kingpin is detachable, unlike most casting brackets where the Kingpin is welded in place, the detachable Kingpin is a bit more cumbersome to install, but this is related to the special way of installing the Blacktop trucks, so it is kind of a forced trade-off. If the Kingpin breaks, it will be sold separately on the official website.

Blacktop trucks uses a patented needle bearing structure to support the Pivot, which is different from the ordinary cylindrical or ball-shaped Pivot in the market. 99% of the brackets use cylindrical or ball-shaped Pivot to rub the Pivot Cup to complete the rotation of the bracket body, but the feeling of the feet will be affected by the material and friction between the Pivot Cup and the Pivot, sometimes there will be a chirping feeling during the use. However, the friction between the Pivot Cup and the Pivot will be affected by the material and friction of the Pivot Cup, and sometimes there will be a chirpy friction sensation during the process of using the Pivot Cup.

The Pivot of the Blacktop trucks is a CNC flat cylindrical shape that fits perfectly with the needle bearings. The cylindrical Pivot rolls the needles inside the bearings left and right to complete the rotation, and the needle bearings are secured to the base by a plastic Pivot Cup.

This is a double-sided blade, with the advantage of a great feel when the stand is rotating, so players can enjoy the feedback of the bushing more clearly, but the disadvantage is that there is an additional mechanical structure that may fail, and if the height of the bushing underneath doesn't match the height of the Blacktop, the wrong angle of the Hanger stand can cause damage to the needle paillettes easily.

The Pivot counterpart of the △ Hanger bracket body is a cylindrical design that corresponds to the rolling of the internal needle, which is a common concept in the mechanical industry.

To be honest, Blacktop trucks are a little bit more troublesome to install than normal brackets due to the needle structure, and you have to make sure that the bottom bushing is installed at the right height for the design, and different heights of the bottom bushing have to be installed with different thickness of washers, which is like saying that for the sake of "precision", it brings less versatility.

For the regular low height Bushing mounted on the bottom, use the thick washer included in the Blacktop box, while for the 0.66 inch (1.68 cm) Orangatang Nipple Double Barrel Bushings, just use the thin black washer included in the Orangatang box.

Conclusion

Blacktop trucks VS-1 PRO from Korea, is a high-priced CNC machined longboard bracket, through precision machining and patented needle roller Perrin pivot system, so that the entire bracket in the Carving action feedback, can be more accurate to experience the feeling of the material and density of the Bushing, followed by the introduction of a number of special colors, such as pink, to meet different preferences! Customers, but the higher price does deter most players.

 

I have used VS-1 PRO, SD-110B and OP-110 for a long time, VS-1 PRO has a very obvious restriction, in terms of casting bracket, it's the caliber restriction, for players who like big carving style, SD-110B is more suitable, while VS-1 PRO is more suitable for 40~44 inch longboard players. The VS-1 PRO is more suitable for longboard players with 40~44 inch short wheelbase, forcing the VS-1 PRO to react faster through the shorter wheelbase of the short board.

However, because of the roller pin Perrin structure, there is an additional possibility of failure, and the overall price is higher, frankly speaking, for FS players who often lose big moves, it is a bit of a chicken rib, but I wonder if this set of brackets has different feedback from other brackets under the Free style of play.
